Geena Bari

Senior Manufacturing Specialist, Allogene Therapeutics

I spent the past near two years in a human population genetics lab, working under talented scientists, I learned a plethora of skills and utilized several methods to running and maintaining a conducive research environment. My responsibilities included following an extensive protocol that allowed me to extract and quantitate the DNA of the Himba tribe of Northern Namibia. I am proud to say I contributed to the world’s largest collection of this population’s DNA to date. Prior to joining the lab I was Event Coordinator for the club Mentors in Medicine which sparked the urge in me to make a change and contribute to the Stony Brook community. My passion for helping and educating others inspired me and my executive board to raise money and awareness for a non-profit organization Pink Ribbon Symposium. Our legacy is now an annual event held on campus every Fall semester during the month of October that promotes the education, research and awareness for breast cancer.

Colleagues know me as a highly creative and curious researcher with an insatiable drive for knowledge, and discovering new and innovative methods for scientific research. I recognize that following direction and protocol is key to running a successful lab and I spend a lot of time understanding the hypothesis and approach before suggesting new ideas. I can (and often do) work well alone, but I whole-heartedly believe that two brains are better than one, and consider myself to be a true team player.
